Twitter allows you to customize your background for a unique experience. Follow these 4 easy steps to extend your brand on Twitter, or contact one of our designers and let Northern Pride build your business a custom Twitter background.
1: Upload Your Icon / Avatar
No reason to use the generic Twitter egg or bird icon when you can use your business logo or even a personal photo if you are the one who will always be tweeting. The image should be either a .jpg, .gif or .png file and should be square, 76 pixels x 76 pixels will do. To upload your profile picture or avatar, log in to Twitter, click on Settings, then on the Profile tab, then simply Browse for your file in the Picture field and Save.
2: Design Your Background Image
The background image could be tiled, but we recommend going with a fixed image. Design your background image in Adobe Photo Shop or similar photo editing software tool working with an image size of 1600 pixels wide by 1200 pixels high. Since practically none of your background will show for screen resolutions of 800 x 600 or lower, you are designing this background for those with screen resolutions greater than 1024 x 768. And my guess is, before you know it Twitter will run with its wider platform which would only display your background on monitors with resolutions of 1280 and wider (new version currently available in trial mode). Keep in mind when designing your background, Twitter will position your background image from the top left corner. This will result in users seeing more or less of your background with the Twitter main content positioned in the center. Be sure to preview your Twitter page with a variety of different screen resolutions.
To upload your background, log in to Twitter, click on Settings, then on the Design tab. Select change background image, browse for your file in the Picture field and Save. Note: image file size must be less than 800k.
When designing you business background, we recommend:
- Displaying your business logo near the top left corner
- Including business phone number and web site address
- 2- 5 word business description
- Incorporate your website theme look & feel
- Previewing with popular screen resolution sizes: 1024×768, 1280×800, 1280×1024 and 1440×900
When you are satisfied with your background image, you can upload it from within your Twitter account by clicking on Settings > Design > Change background image.
3: Don’t Forget Your Custom Color Selection
Update your background text and link colors from your Twitter dashboard. Check to make sure the colors display clearly with your background image. The color settings are in Settings > Design > Change design colors. Save your changes.
